Anglian Water pipeline aggregates, Buckinghamshire

Recycled Aggregates in volume

Anglian Water have completed a 5km stretch of new and upgraded pipeline works between Lillingstone Lovell and Whittlebury in Buckinghamshire in Spring 2026.

The Programme of Works

Engaging the MCM Network

MCM sourced and supplied sustainable aggregates in large volumes, including 200 tonnes of Type 1 recycled aggregate and 600 tonnes of recycled shingle. Used for temporary roadway and the preparation of trenches and pipe bedding, the team tapped into their extensive supplier network, ensuring streamlined and efficient single supply for soils and aggregates.

With a large volume of waste removal required from the works, MCM also engaged their network with waste management services, from on-site sampling and rapid testing to classifying, removal and recycling where required.

Working closely with main contractor Clancy, MCM were on site to test soils when suspected coal tar was unearthed, and could safely and compliantly manage its removal and remediation with licensed waste partners to ensure the site programme continued without interruption.

  • On time delivery of aggregates with quick turnarounds
  • On-site testing and reporting for swift remediation and action
  • Flexible responses and accommodation of last-minute changes

Communication and Management

Within the contractor’s tight works schedule, MCM were able to react and deliver services and products in the shortest turnaround times. Clear and rapid communication between supply partners was paramount and continuity was critical, managed in-house by the project’s designated account manager.

Challenging Logistics

Logistically, the trucked deliveries and removal vehicles had to contend with road closures and other contractor access throughout the two month programme. Part of the HS2 route and with its direct route A413 closed throughout the works, these contractors and utility providers were all vying for similar routes and diversion options. MCM’s logistics team had to liaise and react quickly to delivery windows as these arose.

Outcome and Benefits

Working with the main contractor, MCM could ensure

  • Tight control of deliveries within short turnarounds
  • Cost efficiencies through combined logistics and material sourcing
  • Designated account management for continuity and clarity
  • Smooth transition from testing to remediation to keep programmes flowing

The £2m works by Anglian Water’s Integrated Maintenance, Repair and Developer Services (IMRDS) replaced old 12-inch water mains with new high performance polyethylene pipes. This will reduce the likelihood of bursts and leaks, ensuring continuity of supply for all local residents.
