Smart construction at North London school

With the new term rapidly approaching, MCM were on call to offer rapid response and deliveries to their contractor client, for whom getting the grounds ready in time was critical. At this North London school, the contractors had been busy over the summer preparing groundworks, access and open spaces. MCM had been delivering regularly to site, sourcing and supplying ballast as well as recycled Type 3 aggregates and a specialist bioretention soil blend for the sustainable drainage system.

Identifying and managing contaminated waste

Focusing on smart construction, at MCM it is not just about the supply of materials. It is also about managing demolition and construction waste quickly and compliantly. During the demolition and surface works, suspected contaminated waste was discovered. Arranging a next-day visit for assessment, MCM were on site first thing the following morning, sampling for a rapid test which was then submitted for independent assessment that day. The appropriate remediation and removal was arranged for the following day, enabling the school grounds to be safe and ready for the first school bell to ring later that week.

MCM were also able to source and supply skips for the duration of the demolition and works.

Topsoil, specialist blends and SuDs aggregates

The contractors have now finished on site.  Working with MCM as their supply chain partner has allowed them to meet environmental, schedule and budgetary targets – and the end results create an impressive outdoor learning space, combining nature and active play.
