Setting sights on solar: Solar PV Farms aggregates supply

MCM supplying renewable energy projects nationwide

With ongoing projects continuing throughout 2024, MCM are regularly supplying aggregates to Solar Farm installations.  As far north as Hartlepool and to the south west at Barnstaple, these photovoltaic (PV) panel installations are an integral part of the UK’s strides towards renewable energy.

Farms and landowners are seeking solar panel opportunities and independent solar energy parks are already exporting increasing amounts of clean energy to local grids.

One of our partners, a dairy farm in Devon, has created a solar energy park which will be displacing around 16,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions that would – in other words – greatly reduce the reliance for the traditional fossil-fuelled, carbon-emitting non-locally sourced grid energy. The energy it will generate will be sufficient to power 12,700 homes.

Aggregates and soil supply for Biodiversity Net Gain

In the preparation for these projects, MCM have been regular site visitors, removing waste, providing, removing and replacing skips and supplying aggregates for roadways, substations and ground preparation.

In addition, our Cabling Sand is in high demand. Tested for its suitability and thermal resistivity, this cable sand is used for laying and backfilling thousands of miles of cables across each site.

As a part of the projects, including two Solar PV parks – one in Essex, one in Nottingham – the schemes not only feature the arrays of solar panels, but new woodlands and wildlife habitats.  An important part of achieving Biodiversity Net Gain through landscape and ecological enhancement, the solar farms are becoming a positive contributor in more ways than just energy renewability and CO2 reductions.  MCM continue to supply soils for woodland, hedge and meadow establishment.

The minimal ground level impact of solar panel installations such as these has had a positive effect on wildlife, with their repopulation of restored land co-existing with the technology overhead.

Solar PV and MCM

As partners to several global solar and renewable energy companies and having played an integral part in the construction process and delivery of six solar PV farms and installations over the past two years, the MCM operational team have first-hand, demonstrable experience and a healthy portfolio of completions in this field.  To contact the team about Solar PV installation delivery, contact us today.
